Welcome and Hi,
Trauma is one of the most ignored, misunderstood, and under-treated causes of personal pain; though trauma therapy can offer significant help and recovery to those who have been impacted. When it comes to trauma, no two people are exactly alike and will respond to traumatic events differently. These responses depend on an individual’s personal history, family dynamics, and even genetics. In therapy, it is important to understand these differences and treat each person as a unique individual.
Trauma does not have to start with a major event. Sometimes it can start when our ability to respond to a perceived threat is in some way overwhelmed. Traumatic experiences vary greatly ranging from child abuse, crimes, war, medical procedures, injury, and even embarrassment. The list is endless. Trauma sometimes effects us in ways that don’t show up for many years- and eventually arise as symptoms such as panic attacks, insomnia, chronic pain, low self-esteem, or difficulty in relationships or at work.
In my professional experiences, not only is trauma curable but the healing of the trauma can often be a transformative process. This is especially the case when using therapeutic interventions that draw upon the mind/ body connection. This is especially beneficial for those who have been to traditional talk therapy in the past, but felt that they were unable to move past the trauma- as if it was somehow trapped in the body untouchable by words. Somatic therapies such as Somatic Experiencing and EMDR draw upon both the intelligence of the mind and the wisdom of the body to heal itself.
My Passion
My passion is to help empower those I come across to live the fullest and most meaningful lives possible. I understand sometimes that it can be hard to even THINK about talking about the past, let alone saying it out loud to another person. When words are too difficult, for whatever reason, there are other alternatives. Trauma does not have to be revisited to be healed. This truth drives my passion for mind/body therapies that assist in holistically healing all parts of the person- mind, body, and spirit.
While we can not hop in a time machine and undo what has been done, we don't have to let certain events from the past impact our future as well. There is a way through the pain, to a new beginning and a brighter future.
