Managing Anxiety
Everyone experiences anxiety at some point in their lives. Whether it is before speaking in front of people, waiting for test results to come back, being stuck in traffic, or asking the boss for a raise. In this society and with our busy lives, anxiety is to be expected- in moderation. However when feelings of dread, worry, and the inability to concentrate impact our lives regularly it may be time to see a therapist to help manage it.
Anxiety, not unlike the fight, flight, or freeze response, is a survival mechanism that allows people to protect themselves in order to avoid suffering. However, sometimes a person can get stuck in those responses and experiences extreme levels of the fear and worry associated with anxiety and feels helpless that it will ever get better. Somatic Experiencing is a great way to help move past the stuck survival mechanisms, to a state of health and well being.
